If the feelers from the National Commission for Refugees is anything to go by, Refugees , especially the people in the various camps meant for the Internally Displaced Persons are in for a rough time in the next couple of months unless humanitarian bodies come to their rescue. Abujareporters.com gathered that about Two Hundred Billion Naira which is money meant for their upkeep which is made available every three years by the Swiss government is stuck as the Commission as well as agencies working with it have not been able to access the funds since December when the fund was paid into the parastatal’s account.According to the report, every three years the Swiss government makes money available for the country to enable Nigeria take care of its refugees. NEMA as well as the National Commission for Refugees draw from this fund even though NEMA also have some other support from the Government. The bulk of the money spent on the IDPs are from the Swiss donor funds, our source disclosed. ‘Now that the funds that comes into this and other parastatals go to the TSA account directly, and getting them out takes so much time, one wonders what would happen to the IDPs,’ our source queried.
Over 13Trillion Naira is said to be in the TSA as at the time of filing this report, and this is gradually winding up the economy as many businesses run on credit. Recently, suppliers of daily ration to prisoners gave an ultimatum that they would withdraw their services if their money, running into hundreds of billions of Naira is not paid.
