Irritated Mikel Assaults Female Reporter In Abuja...

Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, reportedly assaulted a female journalist in Abuja yesterday, October 14.


The reporter who works with a local radio station, KISS FM, had approached Mikel who was leaving a training session with the team session at the National Stadium, Abuja and asked for an interview, Sahara Reporters reports.
 An irritated Mikel was said to have lashed out at the reporter, shoving her.
Oluwashina Okeleji, a BBC journalist who tweeted about the incident said the reporter has forgiven the Chelsea player.

The former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, has debunked reports that his son committed suicide in Dubai. On Sunday,one of his sons, Oyamiefa, was murdered in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he was a student.The late Oyamiefa, 30, who was reportedly killed in the house belonging to his father in the Arab country, was said to be the only person living in the luxury apartment. The deceased was the last but one of the former governor’s children..
It was gathered that Oyamiefa was murdered by unknown gunmen who stormed his apartment on Sunday night. Impeccable family sources disclosed that his lifeless body was recovered by neighbours who promptly alerted his father.

Constitution Amendment: Reps approve life pension for Senate president, Speaker; pass 71 amendments...

The House of Representatives on Wednesday in Abuja voted to effect 71 amendments to sections of the 1999 constitution, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The lawmakers also backed the adoption of referendum for state creation.
They, however, rejected the amendment of Section 9 to allow for a referendum in determining the fate of the National Conference recommendations.
Among the 261 house members who participated in the process, 252 members voted in favour of the amendments, eight voted against and one abstained.

Boko Haram: Trial of 97 soldiers accused of mutiny begins...

Fifty nine Nigerian soldiers on Wednesday in Abuja appeared in an Army General Court Martial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny and mutiny.
All the accused soldiers pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, J.E. Nwosu, an army Captain, alleged that the accused had on August 4, in Maiduguri, refused to join the 111 Special Forces Battalion troops, commanded by Timothy Opurum, a Lieutenant Colonel for advance operation.

Coach Stephen Keshi has lost the battle to stay on as Nigeria’s national team coach as the Nigeria Football Federation early Thursday morning relieved him of the job despite the 3-1 win over Sudan on Wednesday.
Keshi’s backroom staffs, including assistant coaches – Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorunmu – were also shown the exit door.
As contained in the communiqué issued after a meeting of the executive committee of the NFF, a consortium of coaches will lead the Super Eagles for ONLY the two concluding matches of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series (against Congo in Brazzaville and against South Africa in Uyo), after which an expatriate coach will be appointed.

Boko Haram-like gunmen kill 27 in Plateau...

At least 27 residents died in an attack by gunmen on Bachi District of Riyom Local Government in Plateau, Josephine Piyo, Chairman of the local government has said.
The attack occurred Thursday last week and was carried out like Boko Haram attacks on villages in North West Nigeria, local government officials claim.
Mrs. Piyo told a joint team of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on a visit to the area on Tuesday that the attackers torched 70 houses.

Although his private jet was used to illegally ferry $9.3 million cash to South Africa, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Oritsejafor, did no wrong, the presidency has said.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Communication, Doyin Okupe, stated this on Sunday in Abuja while addressing journalists.
“Oritsejafor has no business in this matter,” he said. “It is true that he owns the aircraft but there are over 200 private Nigerians who have jets. Apart from those who use it frequently, some give it out to get some money and defray some of the costs. If you put your jet down, you pay money and parking charges every day.”
The presidential aide reiterated Mr. Oritsejafor’s statement that he had given the aircraft to a private company to manage.

The Chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee for the South West Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Buruji Kashamu, has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of launching a campaign of calumny and blackmail against him.
Mr. Kashamu made the accusation on Monday in Abeokuta, in reaction to a statement by Mr. Obasanjo, who urged the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to do away with figures such as Mr. Kashamu, who is wanted in the United States on drugs-related charges.

A former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has told leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that although he remains a party member, his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and success supersedes that of the party.
Mr. Obasanjo stated this on Sunday in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
“My interest and commitment to Nigeria go beyond partisan politics,” he said. “’Under no condition will my commitment to Nigeria be diminished.”

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently speak out and take action on the monumental Malabu oil scandal that is rocking his Administration and again putting Nigeria under the global searchlight as a corrupt nation.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said President Jonathan must end his silence on the matter since half of the 1.1 billion US dollars paid to Malabu Oil and gas for oil field OPL 245 by two oil majors was allegedly used to bribe Nigerian officials, who in turn used the proceeds to buy private jets and armoured limousines.

The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, Suleiman Abba, has said he wants to reform the police and transform it into a scientific force in line with global trend.
Mr. Abba made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri on Sunday.
He said that he had also initiated series of campaign for attitudinal changes in the force as a prelude to the transformation.
“One of the tools that I am currently using in reforming the Nigeria Police is the attitudinal change,” he said. “But apart from that, I am also doing a lot to strengthen our intelligence led policing activities.”
He added that he looked “forward to a day when the police will be equipped enough to operate as a technological and scientific force in Nigeria.”
Mr. Abba commended the Federal Government for introducing the Police Reform Programme, which had helped in restoring the past glories of the force.
He assured that the police would continue to ensure protection of lives and properties in line with the dictate of the constitution.
“Let me assure Nigerians that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the protection of lives and properties.
“The Federal Government has been implementing the police reform which has spread to the states, the Borno Government has started the process of implementing the reform agenda,” Mr. Abba said.
“We have received 40 vehicles purchased by Borno State from the proceeds of funds saved for the police reform.
“I call on other states to please key into this noble idea by allowing for the deduction of the one per cent of their allocations”.
He said that the idea was to bring about an all round development in the police.
“Once the states key in to the reform, we will be able to concentrate on key areas in the reform at the federal level, while the state take care of other areas.
“The key areas include issues of communication, issues of transportation, particularly duty vehicles and many other issues including the building of schools,” Mr. Abba said.
He expressed optimism that the police would be equipped to provide better service to Nigerians in a very short while.
“I am sure when we have an equipped police force we will continue to serve you better,” he said.
The police chief also commended security agencies for the current victory in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
“We have recorded positive results in recent times in the fight against the insurgents.
“We have recorded enough success to say that in the not too long future most of the violent crimes we are witnessing in Borno will be a thing of the past.
“I also want to commend our colleagues particularly the military as well as other law enforcement and security personnel who have been collaborating together to achieve this feat,” Mr. Abba said.
“I also condole and sympathise with the good people of Borno as well as other Nigerians who had suffered unnecessary loses in terms of lives and properties to activities of violent criminals,” he said.

The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, a group passionately campaigning for a second term for Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, has been hit by allegation of fraud, with some members of the group accusing it of staging a crowd in support of the president and refusing to pay them as agreed.
TAN has conducted regional rallies in support of Mr. Jonathan since August, with the last of its six conventions held in Kano, for the northwest, which comprises Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.

The immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Okey Wali, has been kidnapped in Port Harcourt, the lawyers body has said.
In a press statement Saturday, the NBA said it received the “shocking news” that Mr. Wali, its 26th President, was kidnapped by unknown persons on Saturday, October 11, at about 9 p.m.
Mr. Wali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and an indigene of Rivers State, was elected the NBA’s president in 2012 and served in that capacity until July this year.
