An NGO, Initiative for Integrity and Good Leadership has praised the President for his bold step in cleaning the Augean stable left by his predecessor while also advising the President to do ore of governance than touring. According to the group’s spokesperson Titus Kilanko, ‘President Buhari must sit down and do the real governance now. The economy is suffering. From 224 Naira to the Dollar, the Naira has slipped to about 350 Naira which is the worst in the life of this nation. Knowing fully well that nothing ever comes down after going up in Nigeria, we can all see the direction the economy is going if we don’t avoid the looming disaster. Buhari has to sit down and look at what is happening here rather than junketing al over the place. Investors don’t want to put their money where they do not have confidence in those managing the economy and the policies they have put in place. There is no clear cut policy direction in any sector now. Everything is still hazy clearly ten months after he took over. This is not fair to Nigerians, whether or not they voted for him. he is the President of all and he should see himself as such’’.
Speaking on the revelations by the anticorruption agencies about those they have picked up over financial wrong doings, Titus Kilanko directed that Buhari should invite the heads of the agencies and tell them not to play to the gallery again, unless of course he strongly supports what they are doing. According to him, ‘the idea of disclosing what was found in man’s house, account or his siblings or family members’ account presupposes that every huge amount of money in anyone’s possession is stolen.
Advising the President to remember this is a democracy, people are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the courts of the land and you don’t jump the gun by calling them names even when they have not been proven to be thieves, he said. He also reminded the President that the people he is going out of Nigeria to meet are watching the situation in the country closely and they would rather go to places where they are sure to have a better enabling environment than Nigeria where nothing is presently working.
