The spate of financial aberration during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan continued to amaze Nigerians a few days back when it came to light that NAPIMS, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)
granted approval for Esso Exploration (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil) to award four single source contracts for projects in Exxon Mobil’s Usan Deep Water project for the sum of $260 million without going through a tendering process.
granted approval for Esso Exploration (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil) to award four single source contracts for projects in Exxon Mobil’s Usan Deep Water project for the sum of $260 million without going through a tendering process.
It was further alleged that NAPIMS had through three memorandum dated October 13, 2014, February 10, 2015 and April 16, 2015 nominated four companies to execute the contracts in violation of due process and without approval from both the Board of the NNPC and its Group Executive Committee (GEC).
The contracts were believed to have come to the attention of a honourable Member of the House of Representatives through a petition written by an insider. Who knew how the deal was struck and drew the attention of the House to it. Already the House of Representatives is said to have directed investigations into the circumstances of the award of the 260million Dollars contract without following proper channel and the Committee handling this is expected to report to the House in plenary.
