Former National Secretary of Labour Party and Human Right Lawyer, Dr. Kayode Ajulo has warned against the continued politicization of the anti corruption campaign as he kicked against what he termed his bias in the anti-corruption crusade.
Ajulo who's also the Chairman of Egalitarian Mission, Africa, a international NGO for the promotion of rule of law, in a chat with newsmen in Abuja today, said "no doubt that there is need to wage a decisive war against corruption which is essential to put Nigeria on the global map of business-friendly nations that will earn the country prosperity is a most welcome development".He however states that, it is important to state that the dialectics of corruption, as pervasive and diverse, require a holistic fight to tame its pervading scourge. Thus, it must not be seen to be selective and limited to some perceived political enemies and foes to score cheap political points as being presently carried out by the Buhari’s administration in the country.
He cited the invasion of the homes of some opposition politicians and other Nigerians believed to be sympathetic to the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, stating that using the Department of State Security for such purpose is ridiculous.
Barrister Ajulo queried the involvement of DSS over the alleged financial matter asking that judging from inquiries to his office on the functions of DSS foreign investors and international communities are anxious and disturbed on happenings in Nigeria and the motive of such raids by the DSS.
Ajulo challenged President Buhari to tell Nigerians while the only member of his party, quizzed by the EFCC, in person of Colonel Jafar Isa is yet to be arraigned before any court till date.
He also asked why persons believed to have worked or supported former Jonathan are the primary target of the ongoing probe as he condemned Monday’s invasion of the Abuja Home of the Traditional Ruler of Ogbia in Bayelsa State by men of the DSS.
Ajulo advised President Buhari to allow the statutory agencies saddled with the responsibility of anti-corruption to do so, without any interference, that the use of the DSS for such operations is turning to an embarrassment of the President and Nigerian nation in the comity of nations.
The legal luminary urge President Buhari to be guided by our laws stating that rule of law and liberty reign in the land where government is answerable to the people but where people fears the government and there's anxiety in the land it is an indication that there's tyranny.
“President Buhari must remember that he requires the support of every Nigerians irrespective of their tribe or political affiliation, to successfully pilot the Nigerian state to a successful end” He concluded.
