According to reports, an
agent whose duty it was to fed the detainees had gone to perform his duty when
one of the Boko Haram men sighting an opportunity, pounced on him and was able
to get hold of the operative’s gun with which he shot him after which the detainee
freed some of his other colleagues in the SSS cells and attempted escape.
In the ensuing crisis,
many of the operatives ran out of their office while those who were armed
decided to take on the escaping detainees. Soldiers were also called in to help
beef up security around the gate leading to the Presidential Villa while air
patrol by military helicopters were also adopted in order to ensure that there
was no band of escaping detainees joined by others to infiltrate the
Presidential place of abode given the fact that the Yellow House is a stone
throw to the Villa.
Abujareporter.com gathered
that some of the escaping Boko Harama members were able to scale the fence and
jump into the adjourning bush which is presently being combed by operatives. As
at the time of filing this report, some of the operatives are still there while
the roads in and out of the Yellow House remain cordoned off. As at the last
count not less than 20 of the Boko Haram members who were in detention were
killed as they battle the SSS operatives while three operatives were also
seriously wounded.
