PROFESSOR ADIKWU TO SUCCEED ADELABU AS UNIABUJA VC...

The Governing council of the University of Abuja, after months of intrigues and speculation, appointed Professor Michael Umale Adikwu of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) as the new vice chancellor.
He replaces Professor James Adelabu, whose tenure expired on Monday.
Adikwu, a professor of Pharmacy from Benue State, was said to be unanimously considered as the best candidate for the position.
A member of the governing council of the university, who did not want to be named, told the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, on Monday.

It will be recalled that the selection of a new VC for the university was stalled last week, following the unavailability of the security reports on the three leading candidates, prompting the council to postpone the exercise till Monday.

Professor Adikwu finally emerged from a long list of 124 candidates.

who had applied for the post, which was later reduced to 10 and finally to three, including Professors Umaru Garba Danbatta.

The outgoing VC, Professor Adelabu, is expected to hand over today.
