A team of senior
police officers from the office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Alhaji
Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday interrogated Adamawa State governor, Murtala
Nyako, over his recent memo to the Northern State Governors’ Forum, NSGF,
accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of committing genocide against the
north.
The team, which left the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on
Monday, met Nyako at the Government House in Yola. They were sent by the IGP
acting on the strength of the petition by the governor.
Although the police authorities described the team as being
on a fact-finding mission, Nigerian Pilot learnt that the officers quizzed
Nyako for two hours.
It was further gathered that IGP’s decision was prompted by
weighty allegations made by the governor against President Jonathan.
Police sources in Yola confirmed the arrival of the IGP
team on Monday night and its meeting with Governor Nyako at the Government
House. The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, John Abakasanga led the team
to meet with the governor.
Governor Nyako, it was learnt, had promised to cooperate
with the team and received the officers in audience in his office where they
spent about two hours behind closed doors.
When Nigerian Pilot contacted the director of Press and
Public Affairs to the governor, Ahmad Sajoh, he confirmed that the governor had
a closed-door session with a team led by the state Police Commissioner.
“I can confirm that my principal had a closed-door meeting
with security personnel led by the Commissioner of Police here in the state.
But there is nothing special about it because as chief security officer in the
state, it is normal for my principal to hold routine meetings with security
agencies,” he said.
Also, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba confirmed
to Nigerian Pilot that IGP Abubakar sent a crack team to meet Governor Nyako.
