NIGER GOVERNOR ACCUSED OF SHORT-CHANGING...

Niger State Governor,  Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu’s has been accused of under-developing local government areas in the state as in the whole of 2013 only N40 million was released to each of the 25  local government areas for the execution of capital projects.
The member representing Kontagora 1, Mohammed Nurideen Umar stated this at the weekend while conversing with newsmen in Minna saying, the pathetic condition of the councils came to their notice when a House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which he is a member, visited all the councils in the state on an oversight function.
He said, “I am disappointed in what I saw. Governors are really suppressing the local government councils. I will want that clause on local government joint account to be amended in order to get things straight.
“There is nothing to write home about. We did not see any meaningful project because throughout last year, only N40 million was given to each local government council for carrying out capital projects; that is, N15 million from the state government and N25 million from Sure-P”, he added.
Speaking on the 10 kilometre road project that was awarded since 2008 in each of 25 local government councils, the House Minority leader said in all of the councils visited, it was only in Kontagora that the project was completed.
